My hostel pillow turned into a survival tool in Bangkok
I was sleeping in a $6 bunk at a place near Khao San Road when I woke up to a ROACH crawling across my face at 2 AM. I grabbed the only thing within reach which was this sad flat pillow and swatted at it like 8 times before it fell. The guy below me woke up and started yelling in Thai which I think was him asking what the heck I was doing. I ended up just stuffing my shirt in my mouth and laying there with my eyes open until sunrise. The next morning I bought a cheap mosquito net from a street vendor for 150 baht and draped it over my bunk. That net saved me from any more creepy visitors for the rest of my 2 week trip. Has anyone else had a gross hostel room incident that made you change your setup on the fly?

Gotta say, I felt that in my bones. I had a similar thing happen in a hostel in Prague, only it was a mouse running across my pillow at 3am. I ended up sleeping with my head under the blanket for the rest of the trip, which was awful in the heat. The cheap mosquito net trick is actually genius for keeping bigger critters out too. I started carrying a thin travel sheet with me after that, just to have a barrier between me and whatever else might be crawling around. That roach thing is nightmare fuel, I don't blame you for staying awake staring at the ceiling.

@fiona332 I had a friend who found a family of cockroaches living in her backpack in Thailand...
