My hostel kitchen tip changed after a guy yelled at me in Lisbon
I used to cook pasta in hostels without covering the pot, figured it saved time. Some British guy in Lisbon last summer said I was wasting gas and water by letting steam escape. Now I always put a lid on and it boils way faster, saving maybe 3-4 minutes per meal. Anyone else get schooled on basic cooking hacks while traveling?

You ever notice how the most random travel moments turn into life lessons? I was in Rome trying to boil water for pasta and this old Italian dude just shook his head and handed me a lid from another pot. Didn't say a word, just pointed at the stove. Felt like a total idiot but yeah, it does boil faster. Now every time I cook pasta anywhere I think about that guy. Kinda funny how strangers teach you stuff you should've figured out in college.

Honestly, that's what I love about travel the most. It teaches you stuff in such a weird, direct way that no book or class ever could.
