Lost $85 on a 'non-refundable' hostel booking, here's the loophole
I booked a hostel in Barcelona for 3 nights through a third party site and had to cancel 2 days before due to a family thing. They kept the full $85 because the 48-hour policy already passed. After calling the hostel directly, they told me I could have just booked through them for $15 more and gotten free cancellation until the same day. Anyone else get burned by third-party booking sites when direct booking was cheaper and safer?
Ugh, the classic third-party trap! Direct booking almost always wins for flexibility.
Lesson learned the hard way, right? I always check the hostel's own site before hitting those booking apps now.
