I finally chose the overnight bus over a flight to Denver and saved $175.
It was a 14 hour ride, but I packed my own food and slept through most of it, so the money I saved went straight into my food budget for the trip, has anyone else had a surprisingly good experience with a long bus ride?

Honestly, the food budget thing is smart. I'm curious what you packed that actually kept you full and didn't feel like sad travel food. I tried a 10 hour trip once with just gas station snacks and it was a huge mistake.

It's about planning for real hunger, not just munching. I pack a small cooler with things like a proper sandwich on good bread, cheese cubes, and grapes. A bag of mixed nuts and a few dark chocolate squares help when you just need a bite. The trick is bringing food that feels like a real meal, not just chips and candy that leave you hungry again in twenty minutes.

Saving money is great but you can't get that time back. Fourteen hours is a huge chunk of your trip gone just sitting on a bus. A flight is a few hours and you arrive ready to actually do things. That saved money might just go toward extra coffee because you're so tired from a night of bad sleep in a cramped seat. The stress of a long ride can really drain you before a vacation even starts.
