Hot take: Splitting a hotel room with your kids saves money but ruins sleep.

We booked one room for our family of four to cut down on travel costs. My partner says the savings are huge, but I end up exhausted from the kids' noise all night. Do you cram into one room for the budget or pay extra for separate spaces?

So what's the point of a vacation if you're too tired to function? Saving money feels good until you're dragging through the next day. That cheap room costs you way more in lost sleep and grumpy attitudes. I tried it once and it wrecked the whole trip. Never again, the extra room is non-negotiable for us now. Sleep is part of the budget, not an extra.

Who needs sleep when you're saving a ton?

We tried the one-room thing on our last trip and it was a nightmare... the kids just wouldn't settle down. Everyone was crabby from no sleep, which kinda defeated the point of getting away. It turns a vacation into a stressful endurance test instead of a break. These days, we budget for two rooms because being tired ruins everything. You can't put a price on actually feeling rested when you're supposed to be having fun. Maybe look for hotels with family suites or something... it's a tough spot to be in.
