Had to pick between a hostel and a shared Airbnb in Barcelona
I went with the hostel for $28 a night and ended up with a roommate who snored like a freight train. The Airbnb would've cost $55 but at least I'd have gotten some sleep. Anyone else regret cheaping out on accommodation to save $27?

Stick with the hostel every time. That $27 difference adds up fast when you're traveling for a couple weeks, and earplugs are a lot cheaper than a private room. Hostels are also way better for meeting people and getting travel advice from strangers who actually know the area. The snoring is annoying but you can always grab a drink at the bar and crash late when you're too tired to care. Would you really trade that social vibe and savings for a slightly quieter bed?

Yeah I saw a study once that said hostel guests get way more local tips than hotel people. Plus you can split a pizza with randoms at the bar instead of eating alone.
