Found out renting a car at the airport in Denver costs double what I pay at a local shop 3 miles away

Last trip to Denver I landed and walked straight to the rental counter at the airport. They wanted $85 a day for a basic sedan. I called a friend who lives there and he told me about a place called Fox Rent A Car on Federal Blvd. Took a $12 Uber there and got the same car for $42 a day. Has anyone else found big savings just by stepping off the airport property?

Paid $90 for a rental at LAX once before I realized the shuttle to the Thrifty lot a mile away was $2. I guess my degree in impulse decisions is finally paying off.

85 bucks a day at the airport is the insurance you're paying for convenience. Pay the premium or waste your vacation time, your choice.

Wow, $90 is rough. I once paid $75 for a rental car at the airport and then spent the whole trip trying to "save money" by parking it and taking the bus everywhere. Guess that vacation was really all about that sweet, sweet rental insurance I barely used.
