Figuring out the local bus system in Prague took me a full afternoon when I thought it'd be 20 minutes...

I was so sure I could just hop on, but the ticket validation machines were all in Czech and I ended up walking for 3 hours before a student finally showed me the app that works with the QR codes... has anyone else had a simple transport plan totally fall apart in a new city?

Honestly, that's on you for not looking it up first. It's pretty easy to find the basic rules online before you go.

True, I've definitely shown up to places looking like a total fool because I didn't bother to google first. Like that time I wore jeans to a fancy pool club that had a strict "resort wear only" rule, or when I brought a huge backpack to a museum that only allowed clear bags. I just have this amazing talent for assuming the rules don't apply to me until a bouncer or a staff member gives me the side-eye. It's a special kind of laziness, lmao.
