Dynamic currency conversion got me good last trip
I lost money because I said yes to paying in dollars instead of euros.

DCC might mess with your card's fraud alerts too. If your bank sees a charge in dollars from a euro country, it could look weird and get flagged. That means your card gets frozen, adding more trouble to the bad exchange rate.

Doubt it's that big of a deal for most banks now. Their systems are used to seeing foreign transactions. The charge still comes from the same country, just shown in dollars. I've had DCC pop up a few times and my card never got frozen. The bad rate is the main scam, not setting off alarms.

So the real scam is just the bad rate then.
