Booked a 'cheap' flight through a third party site and ended up paying $80 extra for a seat that didn't even exist

I thought I was saving $40 on a flight to Austin last month, but when I got to the gate they said my reservation was for a different person's name and I had to buy a whole new ticket on the spot, has anyone else had a nightmare with those discount booking sites?

actually those third party sites are just fine if you read the fine print, people blame the site when they don't bother to check their own booking info before showing up. I've used them dozens of times and saved hundreds of dollars without a single issue because I double check names and seat numbers right after I pay. the sites are just middlemen, the real problem is travelers rushing through checkout without looking at what they're agreeing to.
