A hostel worker in Lisbon saved me from a huge money mistake

I was checking in at a small hostel near the Alfama district last year, and the guy at the desk saw me pull out my phone to book a day trip. He leaned over and said, 'Wait, don't book that online. The train station sells the same ticket for 15 euros less, and the line is short in the morning.' I almost spent 60 euros online for a 45 euro ticket. Has anyone else had a local tip save them a big chunk of cash like that?

Totally feel that, gibson.oliver. Trusted a guy who swore this tiny beach spot had the best fish tacos, drove 40 minutes out of the way. Place was boarded up and had been for years. Honestly, it felt like a weird prank.

Read somewhere that like 70% of local food tips are either outdated or the place already closed down. Sounds about right after that trip. My buddy swore up and down about a bbq joint behind a gas station, got there and it was just a dude selling hot dogs out of a cooler. Learned to always check Yelp or Google Maps before I commit to the drive now.
