The $12 Goodwill vase that made my bougie friend ask where I shopped
I was at Goodwill in Nashville last Saturday killing time before a dentist appointment. Spotted this heavy glass vase, kinda ugly mustard color, but the shape was super elegant. Paid $12. Brought it home, washed it, filled it with $6 of eucalyptus from Trader Joe's. My friend who spends $200 at West Elm came over and literally asked if I got it at a boutique in East Nashville. I laughed and told her the truth. She now wants me to take her thrifting this weekend. Has anyone else had a thrift find that fooled someone who usually buys new? What was the item?
Ha! That's the best feeling. Once you know what to look for, thrifting gets dangerous for your bank account. My trick is checking the base of glassware, if it's heavy and has a rough pontil or a makers mark, grab it before someone else does. Also, wash everything with dish soap and warm water first, but don't ever put vintage glass in the dishwasher. That mustard color sounds like it could be a real find, good eye.
