That influencer's thrift flip tip ruined my coffee table

Saw this TikTok from a girl claiming she refinished a thrifted table for under $15 using just chalk paint and wax. Tried that on a solid oak piece I got for $20 at Goodwill in Portland. The paint peeled off in sheets after 3 days because I skipped sanding and primer, which she never mentioned. Now I'm stuck with a sticky mess and need to strip it. Anyone had luck salvaging a bad chalk paint job without dumping a ton of cash into stripper?
