Rant: The day my $30 Goodwill dresser collapsed on me at 2am

I was trying to grab a sock in the dark when the whole thing just buckled and dumped 4 drawers of clothes on my cat, so now I'm reinforcing every thrift find with metal corner brackets before it comes inside, has anyone else had a piece of furniture just give up on them like that?

Right there with you, man. I had a nightstand from a flea market just disintegrate when I leaned on it to tie my shoe. Drawer bottom fell out, the whole side panel cracked down the middle. I woke up my whole house at like 6am cussing at a pile of MDF and socks. Now I give every thrift piece a good shake test and check the back panel staples before I even load it in my car. Have you tried using those L-brackets on the inside corners yet?

Maybe it's just me but a $30 dresser lasting any amount of time feels like a win. Idk, seems like you got your money's worth out of it before it gave up. A little dramatic to start reinforcing every cheap find like you're building a bomb shelter.
