Picked a $12 cutting board over a $80 one, lasted way longer

Found a beat-up maple board at a garage sale in Dayton for 12 bucks versus a new plastic one at 80. Sanded it down with 80 grit and it's still going strong after 3 years, anyone else rehab old kitchen gear?
