Shoutout to the guy who said trowel size is a preference not a rule, but I still think bigger is better for production

I was on a job last week with a crew out of Phoenix and this old timer, probably 60 years old, said I was crazy for using a 10 inch trowel on face brick. He swore by a 9 inch for control and less fatigue. I get that smaller tools give you more accuracy, especially on detail work like arches or corners, but when you're laying 500 bricks a day, that extra inch saves me like 50 wrist movements and I finish faster. Has anyone else had this debate where production speed beats out the traditional 'right tool for the job' advice?

That extra inch is a game changer on a big job. I'd take the production win over the old timer's advice any day.

Bet on that bigger cut every time. Speed and efficiency matter more on a job site than tradition. Why hold back production just to please the old guard?
