Saw a brick wall in Chicago with a really clean soldier course

It was on a new apartment building near the river. The joints were so tight and even, it looked like one solid piece. How do you keep your soldier courses that straight without any wobble?

That "one solid piece" look is all about the laser level they set before the first brick goes down.

Yeah, that laser is the real secret. Makes you realize how much skill is actually in the setup before they even lay a single brick. It's all that careful planning that gets you that perfect, clean wall.

Wait, is setting up a laser level really that deep? I mean, yeah, it helps get things straight, but does it really take some insane skill to level a line? You just turn it on and let it do its thing. Plenty of people have built perfectly straight walls for years without lasers. They just used a string line and a level. It's not like the laser is doing magic or something. I get that setup matters, but maybe we're overthinking this a bit. At the end of the day, you still gotta slap the bricks down right. The laser just makes sure they're not leaning. But hey, if it makes you feel better about your wall, go for it. I'm just not convinced it's the huge deal everyone's making it out to be.
