PSA: Found out my mortar was drying too fast because of a windy jobsite in Springfield
Last Tuesday I was laying brick on a exposed wall and the mortar kept crusting over before I could tap the next block in. A guy from the supply yard told me to mix in a little more lime and wet the bricks first, has anyone else dealt with wind causing issues like that?

Yeah @sam_anderson that wetting the bricks thing works but how long are you letting them soak? I've had trouble with them being too wet and the mortar just sliding right off.

Alpine, Indiana here, and I used to think wind was mostly just a nuisance for my back and arms. A couple years ago I was doing a wall on a breezy ridge and the mortar was setting up so fast I had to remix half of it. Wetting the bricks made a huge difference for me too, and I started adding a little extra lime on windy days after that. Honestly I kind of dismissed wind as a problem before that job, but now it's the first thing I check before I start mixing.
