PSA: double check your mortar mix before you start a big wall
I was building a retaining wall out in Maple Ridge last Tuesday and this older guy walked by, watched me for a minute, then said 'your sand is too wet, that wall is gonna slump.' Told me my ratio was off because I didn't account for the humidity that morning. I shrugged it off but three courses later the whole face started sliding. Cost me an extra 4 hours to tear down and redo with drier mix. Has anyone else had a random passerby call out a mistake that actually saved your butt?

Huh, but does knowing mortar really help when the job site changes every year? Serious question.
