My boss told me to try a 4:1 sand mix for a garden wall and I was wrong to doubt him
I thought it would be too weak for the freeze-thaw cycles here in Chicago, but after a full winter, it's holding up perfectly. Anyone else have a go-to mix ratio for outdoor work in cold places?

Did you hear about that guy in Canada who used a 3:1 mix with crushed limestone and it outlasted regular Portland cement in the frost? I read that in a concrete forum somewhere, sounded crazy but yours is proof the old rules aint always right.

That's wild it held up. Did you use any special sand or just regular all purpose stuff? I've seen mixes fail because the sand was too fine and held water. Also, did you add any lime to the mix for a bit more flexibility?
