Just hit 10,000 bricks on a single chimney rebuild in Cincinnati

I mean, I was just counting as I went, you know, keeping track for the order. When I hit that number on my tally sheet, I had to stop and laugh. It's a huge old house and the owner wanted it done exactly like the original, but still. Has anyone else ever been surprised by a count like that on a normal job?

Always double check your count before ordering the pallets. I've been burned by a surprise extra thousand on a big restoration before, and the delivery delay killed my schedule. That number is wild, but it sounds like you kept good track.

Oh man, @gibson.oliver, you are so right. I had a job where the supplier shorted us by a few hundred bricks on the initial load. We didn't catch it until the masons were halfway through the first wall. The wait for the rest of the order put us a full week behind. It's a brutal lesson to learn.

Counting every single brick sounds like a huge pain. I just order by the pallet and add a healthy buffer for waste and cuts. The math on the square footage and openings gets you close enough without all that extra paperwork.
