Just got back from that new development off Route 9 and saw the stretcher bond on those retaining walls.
Whoever laid those up used way too much mud on the perps and the face joints look like a damn mess after one rain, has anyone else noticed contractors skipping the old standards to save an hour?

It's the same thing everywhere now - everybody's rushing through everything, putting in half the effort and calling it good enough.

yeah the "way too much mud on the perps" thing is exactly what i saw on a job last year. i started asking the crew to back butter the blocks instead of just slapping it on thick and it made a huge difference, joints stayed clean even after a few hard rains.
