Had to tear down a whole wall I built 10 years ago due to bad foundation settling
I put up a garden wall in 2014 and last month the whole thing shifted 2 inches because I didn't dig deep enough footings. Rebuilt it with 18 inch deep gravel base this time, has anyone else had to redo old work like that?

The gravel base trick is the way to go for sure, did the same thing with a retaining wall I put in back in 2018. Thought I could get away with just tamping down the dirt but after a wet spring the whole thing started bowing out. Ended up digging it all up and putting in 20 inches of compacted gravel with landscape fabric underneath, that stuff really stops the settling. What got me was how much more work it was the second time around because I had to pull out all the old material and fix the ground underneath.

That clay soil under mine turned to soup even with 20 inches of gravel.
