DAE find out their head joint was never full the whole time?
Was laying a garden wall out in Fort Worth last month and a guy I sub for watched me butter a brick and said flat out "you're starving that head joint." I'd been running maybe a half inch of mortar on the ends for years because it felt faster and looked fine from the front. Pulled three bricks apart on a test pier and the ends were bone dry, no bond at all, just dust. He told me the joint should grab the full depth of the brick face and it takes maybe 10 extra seconds a brick. How deep are you all buttering the ends, and did anybody else learn this the hard way?
