A mason at a demo job showed me how to repoint old brick, now I don't rip out as much
Last month I was on a tear out over in Lowell and this older guy, maybe 65, came by to grab some salvage brick. He saw me prying out a whole wall and stopped me, said I was throwing away good work. He showed me how to grind out just the soft mortar joints and repoint with a lime mix instead of full demo. Took me a bit longer on that job but the homeowner was happy and I bid the next one at 40% less material cost. Anyone else switching to repair over replace on older houses, or is the time not worth it for you?

Guess that works if you got all day to babysit old mortar.
