Wasted $60 on a 'rare' variegated cutting that was just sick

Bought a pricey monstera albo cutting off a Facebook group last month from someone with good reviews. It arrived looking pale and streaky so I figured it was variegation, but it ended up being mosaic virus. The seller went quiet when I sent photos, so I lost the money and probably put my other plants at risk for a bit. Anyone else get burned buying from online plant sellers without asking for a stem pic first?
