Warning: I saw a neighbor's garden get wrecked by a new plant last week

Three years ago she planted what she thought was a nice ground cover from a local nursery, but it spread under the fence and choked out half my vegetable patch in Portland last month, so has anyone else dealt with a plant that just takes over everything?

What kind of plant was it? That sounds exactly like my nightmare with creeping bellflower. A friend gave me a single plant a few years back and it was a huge mistake. It sends roots down super deep and spreads everywhere. I spent all last summer trying to dig it out and it still came back. Some of these pretty plants are just weeds in disguise.

Ha, oh man, creeping bellflower is the absolute worst! I thought I was being smart planting some "nice ground cover" a few years back and it turned out to be goutweed. It took me two full seasons and a lot of swearing to finally dig every last piece of root out of my garden bed. Now I'm super paranoid every time a neighbor offers me a plant cutting, I'm like "what's your game?!

Wasn't that a mint invasion?
