Update: I hit 37 different types of moss in my backyard survey and it made me question the 'native only' rule.

I found 37 distinct mosses in my quarter-acre lot, including three I'm pretty sure are non-native, and now I think the hard line against any non-native plants is ignoring how these tiny species actually interact.

Seriously, who cares if a moss is from here or not?

Moss experts, probably (they get really into it). My neighbor spent last weekend yelling at a patch of bryophytes for being "invasive." It was a whole thing.

Heard a gardener say non-native moss can choke out other plants, @nathan289.
