Showerthought: I used to just buy plants because they looked nice

I mean, a few years back, I'd walk into a garden center and grab whatever caught my eye, no questions asked. I killed a lot of plants that way, honestly. The big change came maybe two summers ago when I got a fiddle leaf fig from a place in Portland. It dropped all its leaves in a month. That made me actually look up what it needed, like light and humidity. Now, before I bring anything home, I check if it'll work in my space. I spend more time reading about care than I do picking the plant itself. It's a bit slower, but my stuff actually lives now. Does anyone else feel like they went from just collecting to actually trying to understand what they're growing?

What made you finally decide to look up care info after that fig lost all its leaves?

Actually, it was my second fiddle leaf fig that started to look sad, @hayes.tara. That's when I knew I had to figure out what I was doing wrong.
