PSA: bottom watering my pothos finally beat the fungus gnats

Fought those little black flies in my kitchen window pothos for about 6 weeks and tried sticky traps, letting the soil dry out, all of it. Filled a plastic saucer with an inch of water and let the pot drink from the bottom for 20 minutes, and three weeks later the gnats are gone. Anyone else switch to bottom watering, and do you ever go back to top watering?
