My grandmother's way of pressing flowers beat every modern method I tried
For years I used a microwave press and those silica gel kits you can buy online. They work fine for small stuff but everything came out looking flat and faded. Last spring my grandmother watched me doing it and just laughed. She took two pieces of cardboard, some newspaper, and a stack of heavy encyclopedias from her shelf. She put the rose petals between the newspaper, laid the cardboard on top, and stacked all 12 books on it. Left them alone for 3 weeks. I figured they'd be moldy or brittle. They came out perfect. The color held way better than anything I got from the microwave. Even the texture felt different, more like the real plant. I've used her method for all my pressing since March and I donated the silica stuff to a local school. Has anyone else gone back to old fashioned pressing and found it works better? What's the longest you've left something in a book press?
