I was watering my peace lily every Tuesday for a year and it was never happy

My friend came over last week, poked the soil, and said 'This feels like a swamp.' I was just going by the calendar, not checking the dirt. So I stopped watering for two whole weeks, and the leaves perked right up. I guess I was loving it to death. How do you figure out when your plants actually need a drink?

Wait, you watered it the same day every week for a whole year?

Look at it this way, plants need regular water just like anything else. Sticking to a schedule makes sure you don't forget and let the thing dry out. It's not about being rigid, it's about being reliable. A set day each week is way better than guessing and ending up with a dead plant.

Used to think you had to water based on how the soil felt, but you might be onto something. A set schedule takes the guesswork out of it and keeps things alive.
