Heard a guy at the nursery say 'root pruning is a scam' and it made me rethink my whole setup
I was at Armstrong Garden Center in Pasadena last Saturday grabbing some potting soil when I overheard this older dude telling a worker that root pruning is just a way to sell more shears. He said if your roots are healthy and your pot is big enough, you don't need to hack at them. That got me thinking about my fiddle leaf fig that's been struggling ever since I 'did it right' with a sharp knife 4 months ago. Has anyone else bought into the root pruning hype and regretted it?

Four months and your fiddle leaf is still mad at you for the haircut you gave its roots! I guess that old guy at Armstrong never had a spider plant trying to escape its pot like a prisoner making a rope out of bedsheets.

Root pruning saved my root bound spider plant from strangling itself in the pot.
