Watched a binder at a fair in Portland use a glue stick for the spine and it made me cringe

They were putting together a nice leather journal, but the spine was just a line of PVA from a glue stick. I've seen this a few times now, and I think it's a huge mistake because that glue gets brittle and cracks. I always use flexible animal glue for spines, even if it takes longer to set. Has anyone else had a project fail because of the wrong spine adhesive?

I used to use glue sticks until a journal fell apart in my hands.

Remember my old high school yearbook, the spine just gave out one day.

Try bookbinding tape, it's saved a few of mine.
