Wasted $80 on that fancy Japanese bookbinding paper from a specialty shop

I bought a pack of that washi-something paper from a store in Portland last month thinking it would make my covers look amazing. Turns out it tears way too easily when you try to fold it for a multi-section binding, so I ended up using regular craft paper instead. The stuff is pretty but not practical for anything heavy duty like a full journal. Has anyone else fallen for expensive paper that just doesn't hold up?

Washi is technically kozo or gampi fibers" Wait, so it's not even regular paper? No wonder that stuff feels like trying to fold tissue paper. I just grabbed mine because the shop owner said it was "traditional" and would give my books that authentic Japanese look. But like you said, it's useless for anything with actual pages that need to be sewn together. Now I'm stuck with a half-used pack of expensive confetti. What are you supposed to actually use this for anyway?

Washi is technically kozo or gampi fibers, not standard wood pulp.
