Warning: Using a 1.5 oz. hammer for setting eyelets on thin paper

I was binding a set of poetry chapbooks with 70 gsm paper and used my usual small hammer. The force was too much and it tore the paper around every single eyelet. I learned I need to switch to a lighter touch or a different tool for delicate sheets. What do you all use for thin paper projects?

My old leatherworking awl handle works better than any hammer for paper that thin.

That's a clever use for an awl handle. What kind of paper were you trying to work with?

Haha wait, @colemartinez are you saying your awl handle doubles as a specialty hammer? That's like using a BREAD KNIFE to butter toast, but hey whatever works for thin paper. I guess when you're deep in the leathercraft game, EVERY tool becomes a potential paper flattening weapon.
