Unpopular opinion: sewing my signatures with a curved needle and no frame saved my wrists on this 400 page rebind
I was dreading sewing the 25 signatures for a rebound 1952 atlas because my old wooden sewing frame kills my shoulders after an hour. Tried a size 18 curved upholstery needle and just poked through the fold by hand with a phone book under the signature stack to hold tension, and honestly the spine came out tighter than anything I did on the frame. Took me 90 minutes start to finish instead of a full Saturday afternoon. Has anyone else ditched the frame entirely, or am I asking for trouble on a really thick book?
