Spent 5 hours casing in a book last Tuesday and the spine still looked like a soggy taco
Last Tuesday I sat down at 9am to finally case in this copy of Moby Dick I've been working on. I glued up the spine, pressed it for 20 mins, and when I checked the hinge it was curling up like a wet tortilla. Turns out I used way too much paste and the boards were warping from the moisture, something a guy at the Des Moines bindery meetup warned me about back in March. Ended up pulling the whole case apart, letting it dry overnight, and redoing it with a thin layer and it came out flat as a board. Anyone else got a paste-to-water ratio they trust for casing in, or do you just eyeball it like I did?
