Question about rounding spines: I stopped sanding after glue-up and my books open flatter now
For years I sanded the spine round smooth right after glue-up because that is how I was taught at the shop in Portland. Now I leave it slightly rough and only touch it up after the second glue layer dries, and my casings have opened flatter since I made the switch around March. Maybe it is just the humidity in my basement, but the rough texture seems to give the mull better bite. Anyone else skip the final sanding pass, or am I risking long term wear on the hinge?
