I finally stopped using a bone folder for everything

Been binding for about 6 years now and I always reached for my bone folder no matter what. Rounded spines, creasing endpapers, burnishing covers, you name it. Last month I watched a video where a guy used a Teflon folder for coated papers and it totally clicked. The difference is night and day, no more shiny marks or accidental creases on glossy stock. I picked up a cheap one at a local shop in Portland for like 12 bucks and my corners came out so much cleaner. Now I only use the bone folder for leather and heavy papers. Has anyone else switched tools after years of habit and felt dumb about it?

Took me way too long to figure this out too. I was burnishing a stack of glossy inkjet covers and every single one had these dull shiny streaks from my bone folder. Switched to a Teflon one and the marks just stopped. Now the bone folder lives in a drawer for leather and board work only. Twelve bucks is a steal, mine was closer to twenty online. Live and learn I guess.
