Cheap binder's board ruined my first hardcover run
Picked up a 20 dollar pack of bargain board at a craft store in Akron, and it warped on me within a week of casing in, even with press time. Swapped to a mid-range board and glued the same way, no curl at all. Anyone else notice budget board has a bad habit of bowing when you use PVA instead of wheat paste?

Yeah I saw a bookbinder on YouTube run a test with different boards and PVA, and the cheap stuff sucked up the moisture way faster than the better board. The water in the glue just soaks in and the board swells on one side, so it curls toward the dry side while it dries. Wheat paste has less water and dries slower, so it doesn't shock the board as bad. Mid-range board is denser too, so it takes on less moisture in the first place.
