Am I the only one who used to dread sewing endbands?

For my first dozen projects, I'd sew them directly onto the book block with a basic kettle stitch, and it always felt messy and took forever. After a workshop in Portland, the instructor showed me how to sew the endband onto a strip of thin card first, let it set, and then attach that whole piece. I switched over six months ago, and the control and clean finish is a total game changer. Does anyone have a favorite thread weight for this method, or is it just personal preference?

A bookbinder I follow online swears by using a slightly heavier thread for that card method, says it gives the endband more body.

My friend tried that and her endbands look amazing now.

Totally feel you on that, the card method is such a lifesaver.
