A retired binder told me to stop using wheat paste for bookcloth, he was right
Met an old guy at a workshop in Columbus who said my bookcloth was peeling because wheat paste just wasn't enough for heavy cloth. Switched to PVA glue on my last 15 journals and not one seam has lifted. Has anyone else had luck mixing PVA with a bit of methylcellulose for this?
My buddy Tim, who runs a shop in Portland, swore by wheat paste for years until a whole batch of his cloth backs split at a craft fair. He blends PVA with a tiny bit of methylcellulose now and says it's night and day, so I'm guessing you're onto something there.
