A retired binder in Portland showed me a palm-down paring trick
Met this older guy, Frank, at a garage sale last spring and he had a beat-up old paring knife with him. He watched me struggle on a leather cover for five minutes, then told me to flip my hand over and pull instead of push. Said he'd bound books for 40 years at a shop on 82nd and never once used a machine for edges. Has anyone else gotten a tip that changed their whole hand position in the craft?

Tried pulling instead of pushing on a stubborn zipper once, ruined the whole jacket.
