Went to Powell's in Portland last week. Changed my mind about physical books.
Walked three floors and smelled that old paper smell. Got a $12 beat-up copy of something I'd never heard of - has anyone else found a hidden gem just by wandering the aisles?

Man I gotta disagree. Those beat-up $12 books are a total gamble and half the time they just sit on my shelf collecting dust. I've got a pile of them from Powell's that I'll probably never read because the writing was awful or the topic just didnt grip me.

Take it easy man, it's twelve bucks. I mean yeah, sometimes you grab a dud, but it's not like you put a down payment on a house. You probably spend more on lunch in a week. I've grabbed books from dollar bins at library sales that ended up being total stinkers, but it just goes back in the donation pile next year. No big loss. Feels like you're putting way too much pressure on a cheap book to change your life or something.
