The way we argue about symbolism has me reading alone now.
I got good at finding textual evidence, but it's pointless when feelings trump facts. So I just skip the meetings and enjoy the book myself.

It's just arguing about a book, not fixing a busted compressor. If a story makes you feel something, that's kind of the point, right? Maybe the problem is when people get too dug in and act like their take is the only right one. Doesn't mean the whole talk is broken, maybe we just need to chill out a bit.

Same, I gave up arguing about themes.

Last month, I read an interview with author John Green about theme debates in book clubs. He said people focus too much on finding the "right" theme and forget to enjoy the reading experience. That stuck with me and explained why I avoid those arguments now. It just feels better to let the story speak for itself.
