The night our club split over a 200 page ending

We were 14 people at Karen's house last Tuesday debating the final chapter for 2 hours. Half of us called it lazy writing, the other half loved the open ending. Now I can't look at ambiguous endings the same, how do your groups handle a hard split like that?
