The moment I realized I'd been reading book club picks wrong for 20 years

I was in a group at the Denver Public Library last month and this lady named Carol pointed out that I kept focusing on plot details instead of themes. Turns out I'd been treating every book like a mystery to solve rather than something to discuss. How did you figure out you were approaching book club discussions the wrong way?

Wait, Carol just casually dropped that bombshell on you?

Same here, @luna_green, but honestly I think themes just get in the way of a good story.
