Shoutout to my book club in Austin for finally ditching the 'one question per person' rule

We used to go around the circle giving stiff answers, but after a heated debate about 'The Silent Patient' last month, we just let people talk and it got way more real. Anyone else's group switch from a formal structure to just letting the conversation flow?

Ha, @james533 nailed it about meetings too - that rigid structure just makes people clam up instead of share. I actually wonder if the "one question per person" thing backfires for real conversations because it puts everyone on the spot instead of letting reactions build naturally. Letting the talk flow means the quiet folks can jump in when they actually have something to say, not when their turn comes.

That "stiff answers" thing is so real. Our group got way better after we stopped trying to force a theme every month.

Forced structure kills the fun in so many things, not just book clubs. It reminds me of those work meetings with a strict agenda where no real ideas ever come out. The best talks happen when people can jump in and react naturally. Letting go of the rules is how you get to the good stuff, the actual opinions and debates. It's a lesson more groups should learn!

Is it really that deep though, @james533?
