Our book club swore by the "no spoilers" rule until two members quit over it at our August meetup
Two people in our Denver club walked out of the August meeting because we spent 40 minutes talking about a plot twist someone had not reached yet. I always thought the no spoilers rule was just a polite thing we all agreed on, but seeing a guy named Dave actually pack up his tote bag and leave made me rethink it. We started using a simple system instead: whoever picks the book posts a cutoff page in the group chat, and past that page we talk freely. It sounds stiff, but it fixed the whole vibe and nobody has quit since. Curious if other clubs draw a line like that, or do you just let people fend for themselves with spoilers?
